As we continue reading The Old Man and The Sea here is what I have been noticing so far. There is a lot of detail in this story. I am still lost in this story but I caught the details about the old mans fishing trip today. He sees dolphins and is trying to catch a marlin. He also talks about how the dolphins and the birds are trying to get so flying fish. The old man thinks it is funny because the dolphins are unable to catch the fish. Also he thinks that the birds are too slow to catch the fish.

The Old Man and The Sea

While reading this book in class I have noticed that it is hard to follow. The type of language that they use is very different. Such as,”But I fear the Indians of Cleveland.” Honestly what does this mean? I have no clue. So far I know that there is an old man and a young boy. The old man has very bad luck when it comes to fishing. The young boy is good luck to the man. Today we read that the young boy brought the old man some food to eat and they talked about baseball. I will fill you in on more as I catch on to this story about The Old Man and The Sea.

Reading Out Loud

September 22, 2006

Ever since I was little I have loved reading out loud. I guess this is because I personally hate reading. So any chance that someone whats to read to me is awesome. I know reading is educational but I just get a comforting feeling when someone reads to me. This is cool because now I can be even more comfortable in this english class. I still learn but I also get to enjoy what I’m learning. An example would be when I went to my first day of kindergarten.  I did nothing but cry because I did not want to leave my mom. When my teacher started reading out loud all my worries went away and I felt like I was back home with my mommy. I am sorry that I do not know what book she read to us but it was a good one.

Olaudah Equiano

September 20, 2006

I just read the story Olaudah Equiano.  This was a story about slavery and their jouney to America.  This story was very sad. It had great detail. I can relate to many things in the story which help me understand the story better.

Desrciptive writing

September 18, 2006

The paragraph that I chose is from the Rapid City Journal and the author of it is Amy Fleury. I read it today in class (white 4). What sets this piece apart from the others is that it is funny and descriptive. What makes it great descriptive writing is the words that it uses.

“At Twenty-Eight it seems I get by on more luck than sense, not the kind brought on by knuckle to wood, breath on dice, or pennies found in the mud. I shimmy and slip by on pure fool chance.”

Amy Fleury, Rapid City Journal

Blogs 101

September 12, 2006

My understanding of a blog is that it is a website.  You can add and change things as much as you want.  It is a great way to express your creativity.  I think blogs will serve a valid purpouse in this class.  I am sure that we will add and change things on our blogs freqently.  I have never used blogs but they seem really fun.  I have used the internet many times before.  So far my english class is great.  Mr. Sheehy is a fun teacher.  Also my three best friends in the whole wide world are in this class with me.  I am looking forward to the rest of the year.  I hope we can do fun stuff on our birthdays.
